It’s that time of year again when the team at Lymm Rugby Club swap their scrums for stage cues and try to remember their lines rather than the offside rule.
Ian recently caught up with resident mischief-makers Simon Plumb and Paul Rigby to get the inside scoop on this year’s over-18’s panto – Jack and His Giant Beanstalk – and, as the title suggests, it’s certainly not for the faint-hearted!
Rehearsals are in full swing (and sometimes falling over), with costumes flying, egos bruising, and enough laughter to power the floodlights.
According to Simon, this year’s script is a “hilarious, wide-angle take” on the old fairy-tale, featuring a few rude surprises that would make even Widow Twankey blush.
Paul, meanwhile, promised jaw-dropping performances and “some acting too” in his role as Angus McBurger!

The show runs from Thursday 27th November and early reports suggest that ticket demand is almost as wild as the rehearsals themselves.
With an extra performance added this year, there’s still a small window to grab the last few tickets and enjoy what promises to be an unforgettable night of mirth and mild mayhem.
So if you fancy a truly grown-up take on a childhood favourite, head down to Lymm Rugby Club and join in the fun.
It’s cheeky, chaotic, and the perfect excuse to kick-start your festive celebrations—with or without your giant beans!
