Sally Fights Back at Parking Charges

Warrington Borough Council are proposing to abolish free parking concessions at Stockton Heath and Lymm – and locals are not happy

We welcomed Cllr Sally Sharma from Lymm Parish Council to our morning studio.  In addition to being a Councillor, Sally is also a local business owner and has great concerns about what these proposed changes will mean for her fellow traders and their customers – and indeed, other visitors.

Warrington Borough Council proposed similar changes back in 2016 – but local communities rallied together and more than 3000 people voiced their objections to the Council.

On that occasion, WBC did listen and compromised by granting free parking periods – albeit with different conditions in each village.

Current Parking Charges

Presently, visitors to the Forge Car Park in Stockton Heath get 15 minutes free parking, Monday to Friday – and free parking all day Sunday.  Charges apply between the hours of 9am and 3pm.  Parking is currently free after 3pm.

In Lymm, there’s a free 1 hour parking period (and free all day Sunday) but charges apply until 10pm each evening.

Proposed Changes

In Lymm, a 70p fee for one hour’s parking would be introduced.

In Stockton Heath, standard parking charges would be in place until 5pm – after which time, a new evening rate will apply.

Sally is not alone in understanding the financial constraints facing Warrington Borough Council – but feels the proposed changes are grossly unfair – especially when several places across the borough offer four hours free parking – or no charges at all.

You can have your say

If you don’t agree with these proposals, you can have your say now.  But don’t delay, these objections must be put forward to Warrington Borough Council ahead of the consultation.

You can sign the petition at Change.org.
