Heavy rain and widespread flooding over the new year period has caused devistation across Warrington and the wider area

Between 3pm on New Year’s Eve and 9pm on New Year’s Day, 60.7mm of rain was recorded in Chapelford.  70.3mm in Callands and 66.5mm in Appleton.

A breach of the Bridgewater Canal at Dunham Massey caused additional problems, leading to the Environment Agency declaring a red alert for the River Bollin at Heatley for a while.

A number of homes across the area have been flooded, with some having to be evacuated and at least 140 being resuced by firefighters.

Though the rain and immediate danger has now passed, rescue and support efforts continue co-ordinated by Warringtion Borough Council continue
