PHIL ROBERTS
The Morning Show: 27th April 2026
Amy Nic was one of those guests who instantly made the studio feel brighter. She joined me on Phil in the Morning for a warm, funny and genuinely lovely chat, and by the end of it I felt like I’d just had a proper catch-up with someone who absolutely loves what she does.
Amy is a comedian, writer and actor with a background that stretches from musical theatre to sketch writing, plays and stand-up. She talked about how that path developed naturally, with comedy and writing becoming more and more connected as her career moved forward. That mix really shows in the way she speaks — playful, sharp and full of personality, but also thoughtful about the craft behind it all.
What came through most strongly was Amy’s love of entertaining people. She spoke about the joy of making audiences laugh and the way live performance is about connection as much as punchlines. That felt especially true when she described the kind of atmosphere she wants to create with her new show: something upbeat, silly and full of energy, where people can just relax and enjoy themselves.
Her latest show, School Disco Party Bags, is part of Work In Progress (And Other Lies) at Parr Hall on Wednesday 27 May 2026 at 7:00pm, alongside Lulu Simons.
Amy explained that the show comes from a period when she worked as an entertainer at a caravan park, and that experience gave her plenty of material to play with. She described it as a kind of behind-the-scenes look at that world, with stories, impressions and a real sense of fun running through it.
That caravan park chapter seemed to be a big turning point for her. Amy said it taught her a lot about reading audiences and holding a room, especially because live entertainment there meant dealing with families, kids and the occasional ruthlessly honest response. It was one of the nicest parts of the interview, hearing her reflect on how those experiences helped shape her as a performer.
I also loved how open she was about the work-in-progress side of the show. She talked about comedians testing material in front of an audience before it becomes the finished version, which gives this kind of night a real sense of excitement. You’re not just seeing the final product, you’re seeing ideas taking shape in real time.
There was also a lovely sense of coming home about the whole thing. Amy said she wanted to bring the show to Warrington because it felt right to test it in front of a North West crowd, around people who get her sense of humour. That gave the interview a real personal feel and made the Parr Hall date sound like more than just another stop on the calendar.
Amy finished by talking about what she’d love to do next, from Edinburgh Fringe to sitcoms, films, game shows and more time in the West End. But underneath all of that ambition, the thing she seemed most certain about was simple: she wants to make people happy.
School Disco Party Bags sounds like a proper feel-good night out, full of charm, chaos and joy, and Amy Nic sounds exactly like the kind of performer who can pull it off!
