Lymm History Society Launches Autumn Programme

Autumn has arrived – and so has an exciting new season of talks from the Lymm History Society, celebrating the rich and diverse story of the village and the people who’ve shaped it.

The 2026–27 programme kicks off on Monday 14 September at 8pm in Lymm Village Hall on Pepper Street, with a special opening talk from Judy Popley about her life at Granada Television.

Judy joined Granada in 1974, during what many regard as its heyday, when the company was behind major dramas such as Brideshead Revisited, The Jewel in the Crown and, of course, Coronation Street.

Her presentation promises a mix of funny, sad and evocative memories from behind the scenes at one of the North’s most iconic broadcasters.

The Society says the new schedule will continue to explore Lymm and the surrounding area’s varied past, alongside the remarkable stories of local residents themselves.

All are welcome to the first meeting: visitors can pay £5 on the door, while those who join the Society on the night can enjoy a full year of events for £20.

This morning, the breakfast show was pleased to welcome Brian Smith, Chair of Lymm History Society, for a catch‑up about the autumn programme and the Society’s work in the community.
