Warrington Youth Zone was bursting with energy, laughter and adventure on Saturday, as more than 1,000 people came together to celebrate its summer birthday party and open day.

Families and young people from across the town stepped inside to explore everything the Youth Zone has to offer — and there truly was something for everyone!

From fast-paced sports and interactive games to creative music sessions and hands-on cookery, every space was filled with excitement and opportunity.

The day was all about discovery, giving visitors the chance to try something new, build confidence and experience the supportive and inspiring environment the Youth Zone is known for.

There was a real buzz throughout the building, with staff, volunteers and members all coming together to showcase the wide range of activities available.

Whether it was getting active, learning new skills or simply making new friends, the atmosphere was one of positivity, encouragement and fun.

Chief Executive Dave McNicholl told Smithy (whilst flipping burgers on the barbeque) the team is incredibly proud of their world-class facilities — but says what really matters is giving young people choice and opportunities.

Dave also highlighted how important the summer period is, with school holidays just around the corner. He says the Youth Zone is ready to welcome new members, with something for everyone and a fantastic line-up of themed sessions and activities planned throughout the summer.

And of course, much of this success wouldn’t be possible without the continued support of local businesses — organisations that are investing in the next generation and recognising just how important young people are to the future of the community.

There’s even more to look forward to this summer, as the Youth Zone heads out into the heart of the community. Every Wednesday in August, the team will be bringing the fun to local parks — Bank Park on the 5th and 12th, and Victoria Park on the 19th and 26th.

These free family events promise all the energy and excitement of the Youth Zone, with activities led by their dedicated team, making it easier than ever for families to get involved and experience what they have to offer.

But perhaps most surprising of all is just how accessible it is.

Membership costs just £5 for the year, with sessions priced at only 50p per visit — opening the doors for young people across Warrington to take part, try something new and feel part of something special.

Head of Marketing George Hodge told usmore about how the Youth Zone continues to make such a big impact – both within the centre and externally, out in the community – while keeping things affordable for families.

Hoppy Heights

Hoppy Heights — the impressive indoor climbing facility — proved a huge hit on the day, with no shortage of eager young people lining up to take on the challenge.

Our reporter Grace couldn’t resist giving it a go herself, stepping out of her comfort zone and getting stuck into the action. We went along to cheer her on, share a few laughs, and enjoy the gorgeously cool air-conditioned surroundings.

We caught up with Kris, the Lead Instructor to tell us more about this amazing facility.

Amid all the excitement and hands-on experiences, there were also some important lessons to take away.

Grace caught up with Chris Todd from the Maritime Volunteer Service — a nationally recognised training organisation and charity, with its headquarters locally.

With more than 20 units across the UK, the service plays a vital role in supporting communities, particularly in times of need and emergency.

Chris shared an important message for everyone — not just young people — as the hot weather continues.

He’s urging people to think twice before jumping into cold water, and to be aware of the SAFE code, a simple but potentially life-saving guide to staying safe around open water.

Ian’s favourite spot at the Youth Zone proved to be the radio and podcast studio — a very cool addition to the already impressive range of facilities on offer.

From presenting and producing to learning the technical side of broadcasting, it’s a space where creativity really comes to life. Lizzie told Ian all about the exciting projects young people can get involved in — and the best part, it’s all included as part of the £5 annual membership and 50p per visit!

As an incredible day drew to a close, celebrations continued with the cutting of the birthday cake — a fitting end to such a memorable event.

Smithy caught up with Sarah Brennan, Relationship Manager and a key member of the Youth Zone’s management team, who spoke proudly about everything the organisation has achieved over the past four years.

She described a role that’s busy and ever-changing, but one she never tires of — knowing that she and the team are making a real, positive difference to the lives of young people across Warrington.
