An exciting weekend ahead!

MIX 56 is gearing up for one of its busiest weekends of the year, heading out across Warrington and Cheshire to support some fantastic local events with live reports and special programmes.

Tomorrow, the team will be at a charity golf day at the brand-new Fairmont Mere Hotel, where celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay is also set to open his latest restaurant.

On Sunday, we’ll be reporting live from Disability Awareness Day 2026 at Walton Hall Gardens. It’s officially the largest volunteer-led disability exhibition in the world, right here in Warrington, with more than 150 exhibitors, accessible sports and live entertainment.

It’s an inspiring celebration of ability, with a powerful message: It’s what you can do.

Also on Sunday, MIX 56 will be bringing you the sights and sounds of one of Cheshire’s premier summer events — the Cheshire Steam Fair at Daresbury — as our reporters capture all the excitement for listeners at home.

But that’s not all this weekend

Something very special is happening on Saturday right in the heart of Warrington, as Warrington Youth Zone celebrates its fourth birthday with a BIG Summer Re-Launch event — and Smithy and Ian will be there, broadcasting live from 1pm.

Families from across the town are being invited to enjoy a completely free day of activities from 12pm to 6pm, with the entire Youth Zone open to explore.

Visitors can try everything from climbing walls and sports to gaming, music, dance, creative arts and even cooking sessions. There will also be sensory activities, a quiet area and a soft play space for babies, making it a truly inclusive event for all ages.

The celebration is not just about fun — it’s also about showcasing the wide range of opportunities available for young people aged 7 to 19, and up to 25 for those with additional needs, as well as younger children through Babyzone.

As an added bonus, anyone attending will receive free entry to Warrington Youth Zone throughout July and August, giving families the chance to make the most of its state-of-the-art facilities over the summer holidays.

Food, drink, live entertainment and activities will be running throughout the day, creating a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere across the whole building.

Dave McNicholl, CEO of Warrington Youth Zone, says the event is a chance to reconnect with the community.  He said:

“We’re incredibly excited to open our doors and welcome the whole community to our BIG Summer Re-Launch event. This is a fantastic opportunity for families to come along, experience everything Warrington Youth Zone has to offer and see first-hand the incredible facilities available right here in the heart of Warrington.”

“From sports and creative arts to music, climbing, employability and wellbeing activities, there really is something for everyone. We want every young person and family to feel welcome, have fun and discover a safe and supportive place where they can thrive.”

A membership and enquiries desk will also be available on the day for anyone wanting to find out more.

And don’t forget — you can catch Smithy and Ian live from Warrington Youth Zone this Saturday from 1pm, right here on MIX 56!
