Flu Season is Here – Time to Protect Yourself

As the colder months settle in, so does flu season — and now is the perfect time to protect yourself and those around you by getting your flu vaccination.

The flu vaccine is free for children under the age of 12, for people aged 65 and over, for pregnant women and for anyone with certain long-term health conditions such as asthma, diabetes or heart disease.

You may also be entitled to a free vaccination if you are a carer or work in professions where you regularly come into contact with others, such as healthcare, education, or community support.

Health experts are keen to remind everyone that uptake among over-65s has been lower than usual so far this year, which is a real concern. Older adults are more likely to become seriously unwell from flu, so now’s the time to roll up your sleeve and get protected.

Even if you’re not eligible for a free vaccine, it’s still worth considering. Many pharmacies and GP practices offer it privately, with prices typically ranging between £10 and £22 depending on where you go.

While the vaccine doesn’t offer 100% protection against catching flu, it does make any infection much milder and helps you recover more quickly. That means fewer sick days, fewer hospital visits, and better protection for your loved ones and community.

With flu already circulating, book your appointment today and stay safe this winter.
