Dr Rosie: Mental Health Awareness Week Dr Rosie

Last week marked Mental Health Awareness Week, led by the Mental Health Foundation, and this year’s message was a powerful one: Take Action.

It’s a reminder that while talking about mental health is incredibly important, real change often begins with the small steps we take every day. Whether it’s checking in on a friend, getting outside for a walk, setting boundaries, or simply giving ourselves permission to rest, these actions can help us feel more in control and less overwhelmed.

As Dr Rosie highlights in this week’s health update, even the smallest changes can have a big impact. Taking action doesn’t have to mean doing something dramatic — it can be as simple as reaching out, creating a routine, or making time for the things that bring us joy. These steps can help build resilience and support our overall wellbeing.

The Mental Health Foundation also reminds us that while individual actions matter, there’s real strength in coming together. Supporting each other, sharing experiences, and building connected communities can make a lasting difference. We’ve made progress in how we talk about mental health, but there’s still more to do — especially when it comes to prevention.

This year’s theme is about empowerment. It’s about recognising that we’re not powerless, and that by taking small, positive steps, we can all play a part in looking after our own mental health and supporting those around us.
