Dr Rosie: Keeping Yourself Warm During the Cold Snap Dr Rosie

Keep Warm and Well During the Cold Snap

As winter tightens its grip, the UK Health Security Agency has extended its amber cold-health alert for all regions of England until 12pm on Sunday 11 January.

With temperatures still dipping well below average, Dr Rosie is reminding us all how important it is to keep warm and look after our health this week.

Layering up your clothing, eating regular meals and keeping warm drinks to hand can all make a real difference.

Even though many of us are mindful of heating costs, try to keep at least one room in your home warm throughout the day — your wellbeing must come first. If you’re worried about rising bills, that’s something to chat through with your energy supplier once the weather improves.

Staying warm isn’t just about comfort — it’s vital for good health.

When our bodies get too cold, the risk of hypothermia, heart attacks and other cold-related illnesses increases. So if you can, check in on neighbours, friends or family members who might need a hand during the colder spells.

And finally, a handy tip from Dr Rosie: a hot water bottle can be a great way to stay cosy, but never fill it straight from a boiling kettle — and don’t use it at the same time as an electric blanket or heated throw.

Let’s all do what we can to keep warm, safe and connected during this chilly January weekend!
