MIX 56 CHESHIRE'S BEST MUSIC MIX

A really informative and thought-provoking evening took place at The Park Royal Hotel & Spa in Stretton, as our friends at Spire Cheshire Hospital hosted a special free event focusing on men’s health.
The session shone a light on two key topics that don’t always get the attention they deserve — prostate cancer and hernias — with expert insight from Mr Ramandeep Chalokia from the hospital’s Urology department, alongside General Surgeon Professor Rob Jones.
Prostate cancer remains one of the most common cancers affecting men, but as the speakers highlighted, early diagnosis can make a huge difference.
One of the key messages from the evening was the importance of knowing your own body and not ignoring changes. A simple PSA blood test can be a vital first step, particularly for men over a certain age or those with a family history of cancer.
The discussion also explored hernias, which can affect both men and women. While many people associate hernias with the abdomen, it was interesting to learn they can occur in other parts of the body too.
Professor Rob Jones explained how abdominal hernias develop, ways to reduce your risk, and importantly, that not every hernia requires surgery — although some cases do need prompt treatment.
With plenty of audience questions and expert answers, the evening left many feeling more informed and more confident about taking control of their health.
Before the event, Ian caught up with both Mr Chalokia and Professor Jones to get a preview of the discussion — you can hear that conversation right here.
