Hundreds of thousands of teenagers across England, Wales and Northern Ireland received their exam results today, with record-breaking grades achieved in subjects including mathematics.

There were celebrations at Sir Thomas Boteler Church of England High School in Warrington, where members of the Class of 2026 were congratulated on their achievements.

Smithy visited the school this morning to capture the atmosphere and speak to some of the delighted students about their results, hard work and plans for the future.

In an official statement, the school said it was “beyond delighted and immensely proud” to celebrate its best set of GCSE examination results in the school’s history.

The statement praised the students’ “resilience, determination, character and unwavering commitment” to their goals, adding that every member of the Year 11 cohort should feel “enormously proud” of what they had accomplished.

The school also highlighted year-on-year improvements in the overwhelming majority of subjects, describing the results as a testament to the dedication and professionalism of staff, as well as the extraordinary commitment of its young people.

However, the school said success looks different for everyone.

While some students achieved exceptional grades, others exceeded their own expectations, overcame challenges or secured the next step on their chosen pathway.

The statement concluded with a message to the Class of 2026: We are so, so proud of you.
