Phil
SMITHY & IAN
The Breakfast Show: 24th February 2026
This morning on the MIX56 Breakfast Show, Smithy & Ian welcomed two guests whose work is transforming lives across our communities – Guv Dosanjh, Senior Manager at the Cadent Foundation and Neill Rimmer, Groundwork Green Doctor (and former professional footballer!).
Together, they shone a light on the incredible support happening quietly behind the scenes to help thousands of households stay warm, safe, and energy-efficient.
The Cadent Foundation established in 2019, was created to help tackle fuel poverty and improve household wellbeing across the UK. Every year, Cadent – the UK’s largest gas distribution company – commits 1% of its post-tax profits to the Foundation, funding vital projects that help people find sustainable solutions to heat their homes and manage bills more effectively.
Since 2020, one of Cadent Foundation’s longest-standing partners, Groundwork, has received £9 million to support over 14,500 households through the Stay Warm, Stay Well initiative. It’s a partnership built on care and impact – and one that’s making a real difference in towns and cities right across the country.
Neill Rimmer is part of Groundwork’s team of Green Doctors – energy efficiency experts who visit households to provide advice, free energy-saving measures, and practical support. Between 2024 and 2026, the team is set to complete another 14,500 consultations, helping families cut costs while keeping homes warmer.
Neill spoke passionately about the joy of being able to help people directly and to witness the relief that simple changes can bring to people’s daily lives.
Alongside its community partnerships, the Cadent Foundation also runs a £1 million Warm Fund, providing year-round assistance to households most in need. This includes bundles of essential warm items such as duvets, energy-efficient appliances, washing machines, and even ovens – small acts that make a big impact.
Cadent may be a major national business, but through its Foundation, it’s clear that there’s a strong commitment to caring for communities at a local level. The company’s work often goes unseen – yet it continues to make sure thousands of people can live more comfortably, safely, and sustainably.
Listen again right here to the full interview with Guv and Neill to hear more about the inspiring work Cadent and Groundwork are doing together.
Stay tuned to MIX56 for more uplifting stories from people who are making a real difference in our communities!
