If you’ve passed through Warrington lately, you might have noticed a magical glow lighting up the night sky — that’s Land of Lights at Gulliver’s World, back and brighter than ever!
Listeners to Kids Live at 5 on Cheshire’s Mix 56 got a special treat this week as young reporter Felix caught up with Rob Partridge, one of the creative minds behind this year’s spectacular display.
“We’ve gone on quite a journey this year,” Rob explained. “From Chinese gardens to mystical forests, Halloween, under the sea, Christmas… and of course, dinosaurs!”
When Felix asked Rob about his favourite lantern, Rob didn’t have to think long. “I really like the mystical creatures this year — especially the hedgehog and that little fox-squirrel thing,” he laughed.
Felix agreed, adding that he’s a big fan of the rainbow hedgehog too — one of the most colourful features on the trail.
Behind all that sparkle is a hardworking team. “There were 20 to 30 people involved, working three or four days a week for about seven weeks,” Rob said. “We started with just five of us unloading the big container when the lanterns arrived — sorting them, moving them into position, and testing every single light.”
Felix then asked the question we all want to know — did anything go wrong? Rob chuckled. “Well, one of our electricians ended up taking an unexpected dip in the lake. He was trying to get the floating lights in position, missed his footing, and went straight in. Thankfully, just his pride was hurt!”

Rob also revealed his personal favourite spot at Gulliver’s. “On top of the castle,” he said. “It’s the best place to stand and look down at everything. I did that tonight —watching people come through, seeing the lights reflect on their faces… it’s quite something.”
Before signing off, Felix asked what Rob would say to anyone who hasn’t yet seen Land of Lights. Rob grinned: “What are you doing? Get down here and see it — it’s got to be seen to be believed!”
The Land of Lights at Gulliver’s World runs until 31st January, so there’s still time to explore the glowing dinosaurs, twinkling underwater worlds, and magical creatures before the lights go out for another year.
