Spire Cheshire Hospital has been rated Outstanding by the Care Quality Commission

And for three years running, the housekeeping team has been awarded the prestigious CAP Gold Award – regarded as the highest measure of quality in ‘safe best practices’ and services.

As an introduction to our new working partnership with Spire Cheshire Hospital, we took our morning show on the road to meet some of the key people – and to find out just what makes it an Outstanding Hospital.

Ben White is the Hospital Director and gave us an overview of the hospital and the services they can offer.

Ian was particularly interested to meet Dr Subramaniam Ramakrishnan – Dr Ram – Consultant Gastroenterologist.

A few years ago, Ian had the unexpected but somewhat exciting experience of having an endoscopy procedure at Macclesfield General.  He remembers it felt like swallowing a snake on a rollercoaster—no seatbelt, no warning.  A hiss-terical, slithery adventure…

In other words, awful!

Thankfully, medical science has moved on – and today’s procedures carried out by Dr Ram and his team at Spire Cheshire Hospital are often less invasive or uncomfortable.  It’s even possible now to swallow a “jelly bean” type camera which moves around your system reporting back along the way.

Did you know – despite all the cutting-edge skills, surgeons proudly go by Mr instead of Doctor – a quirky tradition dating back to when surgeons were more like “skilled” barbers than physicians.

Surgeons of course, like to keep things sharp – both their scalpels and their sense of humour!

We were delighted to catch up with Mr Professor Rob Jones, Consultant General and Hepatobiliary Surgeon.  In simple language, he’s an expert on Gallbladder and Liver diseases – and indeed, he has a sharp sense of humour!

Successful patient outcomes and satisfaction are of paramount importance to all the team at Spire Cheshire Hospital.

The Care Quality Commission (CQC) said that Patient outcomes were positive and exceeded benchmarks for similar services – and awarded the hospital Outstanding status in 2016.

During our live broadcast we met with Keith – a patient who was due to have a follow-up appointment with Professor Jones.  Keith was delighted to share his praise for the outstanding service he’s receiving.

Last, but certainly not least we met Professor Nikhil Pradhan who is a renowned knee and hip surgeon.

As we are generally living longer today, conditions like arthritis are being diagnosed more frequently.

Knee and hip replacement surgeries are widely regarded as life-changing procedures for most patients suffering from chronic pain, arthritis, or severe joint damage.

These surgeries can provide significant pain relief, restore mobility, and enable individuals to return to daily activities that were previously difficult or impossible due to joint problems.

Keeping weight under control and living a healthy lifestyle when you are younger can certainly help stand you in good stead for the future – but should you need it, surgery will help to restore your independence and well-being.
