It’s an adventure which so far this year has seen him complete the Helmsley Trail Marathon, The Wasdale Horseshoe – a 17 mile trek up and down the 7 mountain peaks surrounding and including Scafell Pike – and in October, the 70 miles in 7 days challenge.
This November will see him take part in the Warrington Way a 40 mile ultramarathon a loop around Warrington from Pepper Street in Lymm which has been organised by Lymm Runners.
This will mark Andy’s latest in a series of endurance events that he’s undertaking to raise money and awareness for the Bone Cancer Research Trust.
Andy joined Smithy on the breakfast show this morning to tell us more.
Looking super fit and healthy in his sports gear, it’s hard to believe that until January, Andy was dealing with health impacts associated with an abysmal diet and a very sedentary lifestyle.
Motivated by getting fit and the news that his dad had been diagnosed with Chondrosarcoma – a form of Bone Cancer – he set himself the challenge to participate in a series of endurance events, pushing his limits to support primary bone cancer patients.
He’s so far raised over £2600 for the Trust and is set to raise even more in the coming weeks.
The Warrington Way 40 Mile Ultramarathon takes place this Saturday, 9th November with Andy and his fellow Lymm Runners leaving Maple Lodge on Pepper Street in the morning.
Good luck Andy!
