GOOD MORNING CHESHIRE
Families, community groups and workplace teams across Cheshire are being invited to take part in a unique fundraising walk around Chester Racecourse later this month — with all proceeds supporting local families through the Cheshire Community Foundation’s Thriving Families programme.
Amy Platt, Marketing and Communications Manager at Cheshire Community Foundation, joined us in the studio to share more about the foundation’s work and to announce this year’s High Sheriff of Chester, Lynn Peglar’s, signature fundraising event: Race Across The Roodee.
Taking place on Saturday 26 September, participants will walk five laps of the world-famous Roodee, solving fun challenges along the way. The event is designed to be inclusive and intergenerational — grandparents, parents and children can all take part together, and even dogs are welcome.
Organisers say it’s a chance to enjoy the racecourse in a completely different way, while raising vital funds for families facing hardship close to home.
All funds raised will be distributed by Cheshire Community Foundation to support its Thriving Families programme. This provides essential, early-intervention services such as:
The foundation stresses that the need for this kind of practical, early support has never been greater.
The fundraising goal for this year’s Race Across The Roodee is £30,000. Participants are encouraged to set personal fundraising targets or sign up as teams to multiply their impact.
Local workplaces are also being urged to get involved, using the walk as a team-bonding activity that gives back to the community.
With the event just weeks away, organisers are encouraging anyone interested to sign up as soon as possible for what they describe as a unique opportunity at the Roodee.
Further details on registration, team sign-ups and fundraising support can be found via Cheshire Community Foundation’s website and social channels.
