Meet the Consultant: Keeping Your Heart Healthy with Dr Fozia Ahmed

February is Heart Health Awareness Month, making it the perfect time to focus on the most vital muscle in our bodies — our hearts. In our latest Meet the Consultant podcast, we’re joined by Dr Fozia Ahmed, Consultant Cardiologist at Spire Cheshire Hospital, to explore why heart disease is on the rise and what practical steps we can take to protect our heart health.

As Dr Ahmed explains, “There’s nothing new here, but thinking about the foods we eat, our general intake and making time for regular exercise can make all the difference to your heart health.”

In the discussion, Dr Ahmed shares valuable insights into how everyday habits, environmental factors and stress can all have a direct impact on our cardiovascular wellbeing.

It’s not all bad news, though — far from it. Thanks to rapid advancements in medical science, early diagnosis and treatment options are improving all the time. The team at Spire Cheshire Hospital has access to world-class diagnostic tools and procedures, helping patients take control of their heart health and live longer, healthier lives.

Our guest this month brings a wealth of experience and expertise. Dr Fozia Ahmed has been a practising consultant cardiologist at Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust since 2015. She is an expert in heart failure, arrhythmias and cardiometabolic disease, particularly where heart disease occurs alongside diabetes or obesity.

In her NHS role, she performs cardiac device procedures, including the fitting of pacemakers and defibrillators, and has a special interest in breathlessness and obesity-related heart conditions.

Dr Ahmed’s leadership and research credentials are equally impressive. She has served with the NIHR Cardiovascular Research Network, received the Roy Award in recognition of her outstanding contributions to Heart Failure, and has held academic positions at the University of Manchester. Today, she continues to play an influential role on the education and research committees of national heart societies, helping to shape the future of cardiovascular medicine.

If you’d like to hear more, Spire Cheshire Hospital is hosting a free Heart Health event on Wednesday 25th February at The Park Royal, Stretton.

Dr Ahmed will be joined by fellow consultant Dr Robert Butler, where they’ll share expert advice on managing heart disease and reducing your risk.

The event is free to attend, but advance booking is essential — You can book online here.

Don’t miss this opportunity to learn from two leading specialists and take the first steps towards a healthier heart.
