Breast Cancer Awareness Month 2025 Spire Cheshire Hospital

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In this podcast we chat with Dr Furhan Razzaq, Consultant Radiologist and Kirsty Harrison, Team Leader in Radiology at Spire Cheshire Hospital.

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month — a time to remind ourselves how important it is to know the signs to look for and to seek advice if something doesn’t feel right.

We spoke with Kirsty Harrison – Team Leader in the Radiology Department at Spire Cheshire Hospital, who explained that many women worry about having a mammogram, but the reality is often much easier than expected. “It’s very quick,” Kirsty said, “and while you might feel a little pressure or slight discomfort for a moment or two, it shouldn’t be painful — it’s over before you know it.”

Regular screenings are vital because they can detect changes before any symptoms appear, helping treatment start earlier and improving outcomes.

Dr Furhan Razzaq, Consultant Radiologist at Spire Cheshire Hospital, also reminded us that Breast Cancer doesn’t just affect women. “It’s rare in men,” he explained, “but it’s still important that everyone is aware and checks for any differences or lumps.”

This month, take a few minutes to learn or remind yourself what’s normal for you.

If you notice something unusual, always talk to your GP. Early detection saves lives — and looking after your health is one of the best things you can do for yourself and your family.
