MIX56 continues to bring some of the biggest names in music to Warrington and beyond – and recently, Rob McGowan caught up with a true icon of the 80s ahead of his upcoming summer tour.

Nik Kershaw, the voice behind timeless hits like “Wouldn’t It Be Good” and “The Riddle,” is heading back out on the road with his band for a special run of shows he’s playfully dubbed the Six in 26 tour.

Marking what he calls “50 years as a responsible adult” (his words, not ours!), the tour promises a mix of classic favourites and perhaps a few surprises along the way.

Born in Bristol and raised in Ipswich, Nik’s journey into music began with a guitar at the age of 15, inspired by David Bowie.

From those early days through to global chart success in the 1980s, he quickly became one of the defining voices of the decade.

His debut album Human Racing and follow-up The Riddle both achieved platinum success, while a string of hit singles and a memorable appearance at Live Aid cemented his place in pop history.

But Nik’s story doesn’t stop there. Behind the scenes, he’s also written and produced for an incredible list of artists – from Elton John to Gary Barlow – and penned the smash hit “The One and Only” for Chesney Hawkes.

Over the years, he’s continued to release new music, with his most recent album Oxymoron arriving in 2020.

Now, he’s bringing it all back to the stage—including a date right here in Warrington at Parr Hall on Saturday 11th July.

Ahead of the tour, Nik joined Rob McGowan on MIX56 for a relaxed chat about life, music, and what fans can expect from these special shows.

As you’d imagine, it’s full of great stories, honest reflections, and that unmistakable charm.

You can listen again to the full interview right here—and if you’re heading to Parr Hall this summer, consider this your perfect warm-up.
