The banks of the River Mersey came alive at the weekend for the much-anticipated Dragon Boat Race, an event that saw the community unite in support of St Roccos Hospice.

Under a cloudy summer sky, the river echoed with cheers, friendly rivalry, and the infectious beats of the drummers as teams of paddlers – made up of friends, colleagues, and local groups—pushed their boats to the finish line.

The Dragon Boat Race, now a cherished tradition in Warrington, welcomed 14 teams of rowers plus a drummer, all eager to show their spirit and teamwork while raising vital funds for the hospice.

Smiles and laughter filled the air, with spectators and participants alike buoyed by the event’s warm, inclusive atmosphere.

But behind the good-natured competition was a shared purpose: supporting St Roccos, which for 40 years has offered compassionate care for patients and families during their most challenging times.

Fundraising was at the heart of the event, with each team pledged to raise at least £1,000 to help the hospice continue its vital services.

Thanks to the passion of the paddlers and the generosity of the crowd, the race became not just an exciting spectacle but a meaningful act of local giving.

The event raised an incredible £20,000 which will make a tangible difference – helping the hospice provide free care for those who need it most.
