MIX 56 (HD) CHESHIRE'S BEST MUSIC MIX
It was during my younger days near Chester, I became an avid radio listener, mainly thanks to Radio Caroline North. The Merseybeat was everything. Who remembers watching the Beatles live on Granada ITVs ‘Scene at 6.30’ introduced by Mike Scott and Michael Parkinson?
Although my first career was to take me into industry, working for two multinational companies, my radio bug would not go away.
I got my first professional break doing weekend cover shifts at Gloucestershire’s Severn Sound, and then I applied to present a rock show at Radio Wyvern. I was offered a full-time job presenting the afternoon, and evening rock shows. I immediately changed careers and never looked back.
Not long after I was at BBC Radio Shropshire presenting sport and just about everything else.
In later years I worked for the Beeb in Birmingham, London, Bristol, Stoke and Cambridge in producer, press office, and senior journalism positions.
A few years ago my wife landed a year long Commonwealth teaching exchange and we ended up in sub-Arctic Canada.
It was an incredible experience living and working in the Yukon (yes, next door to Alaska).
I ended up working as a journalist for CBC, and on the weekends I presented a six hour long live show on the legendary CKRW – ‘The Rush’, one of the world’s northernmost commercial radio stations.
You won’t be surprised to learn that we now have a travel bug and, as a result, we’ve got as far as 67 degrees South and we’re trying to get to 80 degrees North.
On Cheshire’s Mix 56 I am currently presenting Sunday Breakfast and ‘Classic Hits 70s’ Sundays at 6pm.
