Bob Acteson

Background

Hello, I’m Bob Acteson.

Here’s a brief trip through the LONG life of Bob Acteson, who, being born in 1942, MUST be the oldest presenter on Cheshire’s Mix 56 and, possibly, anyone on other radio stations!

Yes, I was a ‘war baby’, and I still have a very faint recollection of hearing the V1 flying bombs – known as ‘Doodlebugs’, as a 3-year-old living in east London.

A keen sportsman when younger, I loved football, (had trials for 2 clubs, but wasn’t good enough) and also loved cricket and table tennis.

I went on to coach Sunday football teams when my son began playing at the age of nine – a pursuit  which lasted 35 years, ending as Chairman of the league in which I was involved.

I spent most of my working life in a sales career which allowed me to escape from the four walls of a humdrum office life and finally retired at the age of 68 in 2010.

I was lucky enough to have been married to my wonderful wife Barbara, for 56 happy years, during which we raised two children, before l lost her to cancer in 2019.

In the summer of 2021, while chatting to Elio Pace, he suggested I should try presenting a radio show for his friends, Ian and Paul, at Lymm Radio. Since music has always been my passion, it didn’t take long to persuade me and here I am in 2025, thoroughly enjoying myself at Mix 56, having completed some 40 shows at the time of writing.

My shows, which go out under the title of Hooked On Music at 2.00 pm on the last Sunday of each month, consist of a mix of styles, including Rock, R & B, Blues, Doo-Wop, Soul and Country – many of which are rare – along with the odd track which is indeterminable!  Looking forward to many more shows and your company, if you’d care to join me!
