MIX 56 CHESHIRE'S BEST MUSIC MIX

Paul Smith & Ian James
The Breakfast Show: 16th December 2025
There’s something truly magical about watching miniature trains wind their way through tiny towns and intricate landscapes — and now, that magic has returned to Cheshire.
Legendary music producer and lifelong railway enthusiast Pete Waterman OBE is back with his extraordinary Making Tracks model railway installation, now open at Cheshire Woodlands, Blakemere Village near Northwich, until 29th March.
Stretching an impressive 64 feet in length, this beautifully crafted display is a masterpiece of detail and creativity.
Designed and built by Pete and his talented Railnuts team, Making Tracks isn’t just a sight to behold — it’s an experience to explore.
With interactive features for both children and adults, there’s plenty of hands-on fun to enjoy, as well as a few hidden surprises waiting to be discovered along the way.
The installation combines artistry, education, and nostalgia in equal measure, offering visitors a glimpse into the golden age of rail travel brought to life in miniature form.
It’s a treat for model enthusiasts, families, and anyone curious about the ingenuity behind one of Britain’s favourite pastimes.

Ahead of the grand opening, Smithy caught up with Pete Waterman to chat about the project, his lifelong passion for railways, and what makes this year’s display extra special.
You can listen again to the full interview for behind-the-scenes insights and stories straight from Pete himself.
Whether you’re a seasoned model railway fan or simply looking for a brilliant family day out, Making Tracks promises to capture imaginations and delight visitors of all ages.
