Soapbox Derby is coming to town and we say goodbye to a local legend

It’s a Thursday and the new Guardian is out!  We caught up with Deptuty Editor, Gareth Dunning to find out what’s in this weeks edition..

Soapbox Krazy Races is heading to Warrington

Sunday 9th June should be an exciting day in Warrington – as the first Soapbox Derby heads to the town.

The event organised by the Warrington BID team is a downhill racing series that sees competitors build and race their own go-karts – and is expected to bring thousands of spectators to the town.

Don’t forget 9th June is also Father’s Day!

In other news, Warrington is to be given an additional £120M to imrove transport in the area.

This is following the cancellation of the HS2 scheme.

Roy Mozely with Ian James at Cheshire’s MIX56

Roy Mozely

Sad news reached us last weekend that we’d lost a local legend, Roy Mozely – and there’s a tribute in the paper this week.

In his lifetime, Roy was a big name in the entertainment business – and will be remembered for owning the iconic Talk of the North Club in Eccles, amongst other venues.

Roy was an avid listener and supporter of Cheshire’s MIX56 and was a regular guest at our studio.  We’ll miss you Roy.

Read all about it and more stories in this week’s Guardian.
