MIX 56 CHESHIRE'S BEST MUSIC MIX
MIX56 listeners now have the unique opportunity to own a piece of musical history while supporting a vital cause: five of Martin Lee’s precious guitars (and a guitar amp) are being auctioned to benefit the British Heart Foundation – thanks to his wife and former bandmate Sandra Stevens.
Martin was part of the legendary Brotherhood of Man, the group whose 1976 Eurovision victory with Save Your Kisses for Me became one of the most celebrated moments in British pop history.
Brotherhood of Man – Martin Lee, Sandra Stevens, Nicky Stevens (no relation!) and Lee Sheriden – shot to international fame after their 1976 Eurovision win in The Hague, where their heartfelt performance of Save Your Kisses for Me charmed audiences and judges alike.
The single dominated charts, reaching number one in over 30 countries and becoming one of the best-selling Eurovision records of all time – even more successful than Waterloo!
Martin Lee, remembered not just for his leading vocals and songwriting – but for his enduring partnership with Sandra, left a profound mark on the music world when he passed away in 2024.
In conversation with Ian, Sandra spoke warmly about their years together in the group – reminiscing about the excitement of Eurovision, the thrill of worldwide tours and the unforgettable bond between the band members and their fans.
Brotherhood of Man’s legacy includes chart-toppers like Angelo, Figaro and United We Stand in addition to their Eurovision classic.
Sandra Stevens’ decision to send five of Martin’s beloved guitars to auction is both a tribute to his memory and a heartfelt effort to help the British Heart Foundation.
The auction offers fans and collectors a chance to own a slice of pop history while supporting research and care for heart disease – a cause that’s now especially meaningful to Sandra and the Brotherhood of Man family.
In her chat with Ian James, Sandra expressed her hope that the guitars will find happy new homes with those who appreciate Martin’s legacy and that the funds raised will support life-saving work by the British Heart Foundation.
She reflected on the magic of Eurovision night, gratitude for the joy music brought into both their lives and the incredible community of Brotherhood of Man supporters – past and present – who continue to keep their music and memory alive.
This is a special moment for MIX56 listeners: the chance to cherish a piece of musical history and contribute to a life-saving cause – all in the memory of Martin Lee and the everlasting sound of the Brotherhood of Man.
