Warrington Animal Welfare is a registered charity set up back in 1983 to help pet owners on low incomes or benefits pay to have their pets neutered, reducing the number of stray, abandoned and unwanted animals across Warrington and the surrounding areas.
From those early beginnings, their mission has grown to include responsible pet ownership, rehoming and microchipping – always with the simple belief that every animal deserves to feel safe, loved and cared for.
On his latest trip out and about, Phil swapped the studio for the cattery, where he met Cattery Manager Ryan Alexander and some of the adorable feline residents currently waiting for their forever homes.
Ryan and his dedicated team of volunteers work tirelessly behind the scenes – cleaning pens, giving medication, offering gentle fuss and reassurance, and managing every step of the adoption process so each animal finds the right home.
Their passion for animal welfare really shines through the moment you step through the door.
One of the most inspiring parts of Phil’s chat with Ryan was hearing about the charity’s promise of lifelong care – their rescue back up for life pledge means that any animal adopted from Warrington Animal Welfare is always welcome back, no matter how much time has passed.
Even ten years down the line, if circumstances change and an owner can no longer cope, the charity will step in to ensure that pet is safe, supported and lovingly cared for again.
That commitment gives adopters real peace of mind and proves that, for this team, an adoption is never just a quick handover – it’s a lifelong promise.

As well as rehoming cats and other animals, Warrington Animal Welfare offers a vital low-cost neutering scheme for pet owners on benefits or low income in Warrington and nearby areas, helping to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the number of animals ending up in rescue.
Neutering is the only humane way to tackle the problem of too many unwanted pets, and it also brings health and behaviour benefits – from calmer, more predictable behaviour to a reduced risk of certain serious illnesses later in life.
The team also offers advice and practical help to people who need to responsibly rehome a pet, using their small but dedicated network of fosterers and their rescue centre to make sure each animal lands on its paws.
Like so many local charities, Warrington Animal Welfare relies 100% on the kindness and generosity of the public, whether that’s financial donations, gifts of food and supplies, or precious volunteer time.
Every donation helps them to continue neutering pets for families who are struggling, providing safe shelter and medical care, and giving abandoned animals a second chance.
If Phil’s visit has inspired you, you can support in so many ways – from donating or fundraising, to offering a loving home to an animal in need, or even joining the amazing volunteer team that keeps this special place running.
You can hear Phil’s full conversation with Ryan, and meet some of the centre’s current residents, by listening again right here on this page – a perfect companion while you consider how you might help give a local animal a brighter future!
