Santa’s Float Returns in South Warrington – A Cherished Local Tradition

Exciting news swept through South Warrington this morning, as Linda Monk from the Rotary Club of Lymm joined Smithy & Ian for breakfast to announce the much-anticipated return of Santa’s float from next Monday.

This colourful, festive spectacle has become a true local institution, bringing joy to children and adults alike while raising thousands of pounds each year for local good causes.​

Linda shared that over the past year, the Rotary Club of Lymm donated funds to more than 20 local causes, thanks to the generosity of residents who support the float as it tours the neighbourhood.

From helping community groups to making festive treats available, the club’s impact goes far beyond Christmas.

Just recently, they hosted a seniors’ afternoon tea and provided more than 120 local residents with boxed treats – an act that perfectly sums up the Rotary Club’s caring spirit.​

Yet, alongside celebrations there was a tinge of sadness, as Linda revealed that this year’s Santa’s float is likely to be the last.

The Rotary Club of Lymm, founded in 1936, is now down to fewer than 10 members – all of whom have given enormous time and heart but are “getting a little long in the tooth.”

As Linda passionately appealed on air: new members are desperately needed to keep this wonderful tradition alive.

The club meets just twice a month, welcoming anyone who wants to make a difference while enjoying genuine friendship and social occasions.

The rewards are immense – supporting beloved causes, creating memories for local families and upholding a tradition that means so much to the community.​

From the twinkling lights and music of Santa’s tour to the countless good causes supported behind the scenes, there’s so much to celebrate.
