Hi Smithy here, I present Good Morning Cheshire Monday to Thursday, The Saturday Club with Ian James and Sunday Love Songs on Cheshire’s Mix 56. 

I was born in Chester and have remained in Cheshire all my life having lived in Lymm for 20 years. 

I love radio and always wanted to be a radio DJ. 

Wedding discos and DJing at a ten-pin bowling alley in Chester led me to MFM /Marcher Radio in Wrexham getting my own radio shift in 1993 before joining Piccadilly Key 103 and Magic 1152 in Manchester. 

I have a production business and have recorded thousands of voice overs for clients around the world.  

I helped set up Lymm Radio in 2020 for the local community and we made the national ITV news as lockdown heroes!  

We have seen the station grow across Cheshire on DAB and relaunch as Cheshire’s MIX 56 in 2023, whilst remaining proudly local. 

When not behind the microphone I’m a huge cat lover, I have two Jack and Jess, I learnt to fly a plane at Liverpool Airport and I’m a huge fan of steam engines, choo choo! 

I think the last one is because of my train spotter dad!
