Take Positive Steps in 2025!

Warrington Borough Council is encouraging residents to take positive steps to boost your health and wellbeing this new year.

New year can feel like you need to change overnight, but we know it’s not that easy! Breaking old habits and creating healthy ones can be challenging and hard at times. However, it’s not impossible.

Whether you are looking for a positive outlook on life, wanting to change your diet and/or you want to get more active, the new year can bring a fresh start and a chance to look at different ways to a healthier and happier life.

Being kind to yourself and seeking support to aid your goals can be really helpful. A good place to start is considering what motivates you and what positive things you can add to your life, rather than take away.  Try to set yourself small, achievable goals that you can reach and then build on gradually.

There are lots of ways to boost your health and wellbeing, enjoy new experiences and meet new people along the way, spending time in nature, volunteering or joining a new group are just a few examples.

Other examples include:

Eat well

Eating a healthy, balanced diet is an important part of maintaining good health and can help you feel your best.

It can help you maintain a healthy weight, keep your bones and joints strong, ensure you have enough energy and much more.

Get Active

Try to get yourself moving more this year through doing things you enjoy.

Physical activity is not only good for your body, but it’s also great for your mind!

Take Part in Dry January

Cutting back on drinking alcohol will help you have better sleep, save money, and improve your mental health.

Quit Smoking

Stopping smoking is one of the best things you can do for your health. You’ll have more energy, feel healthier and also save money.

Make 2025 the year you quit!

Look After Your Mental Health

We all deserve to enjoy life and feel good about ourselves but sometimes life can be tough.

In addition, the NHS’s ‘five steps to mental wellbeing’ provides advice on range of health and wellbeing steps you can take, such as connecting with others, learning new skills, practicing mindfulness and acts of giving and kindness.

Evidence suggests that these steps can help you to feel more positive, improve your mental health and wellbeing and able you to get the most out of life.

Cllr Maureen McLaughlin, cabinet member for health, wellbeing and social care, said: “The New Year can be a great time for a fresh start and to think about ways we can improve our health and wellbeing. Even making small changes can help!

“There is lots of help and support out there for people who want to take positive steps to improve their health and wellbeing, not just during January, but all year round.”
