Women's Health: Gynaecology Cancer Awareness Month Dr Rosie

September was Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month

September was Gynaecological Cancer Awareness Month, a time to shine a spotlight on women’s health and encourage open conversations about symptoms that should never be ignored.

On our recent health feature, Dr Rosie was joined by Dr Shavani Batra, Consultant Gynaecologist from Spire Cheshire Hospital for a warm and reassuring chat about recognising the signs and the importance of seeking advice early.

Some of the key symptoms to look out for include:

  • Persistent bloating or swelling in the tummy
  • Unexpected changes in bleeding patterns
  • Ongoing pelvic or abdominal pain
  • Needing to pass urine more urgently or more often
  • Unexplained changes in appetite or weight

Dr Batra stressed that noticing one of these symptoms doesn’t always mean cancer, but it does mean it’s worth speaking to a GP or healthcare professional for advice.

Early detection makes a real difference, and simply keeping an eye on changes in your body is an important first step.

The conversation also highlighted that awareness is empowering.

Having the knowledge and confidence to seek help helps women feel in control of their health.
