UPDATE 7th DECEMBER 15.30
After 10 weeks the Warrington Bin Strikes have been called off. Agreement has been made between Warrington Borough Council and Unions representing the Warrington workers, who will return to work tomorrow, Friday 8th December.

Ten weeks on and the Warrington bin strikes continue

A fifth round of strike action by UNITE workers in Warrington is expected to continue until 24th December and there’s little prospect of this situation being resolved anytime soon.

On Tuesday 28th December, Warrington Borough Council made case at the high court for an interim injunction to immediately stop the industrial action.

Unfortunately, the interim injunction was not granted – so the strikes continue and public support is now wearing thin.

What a mess we are in at present. If there’s a chance the strike may go on over the festive season we need the borough council come up with a plan of action urgently. Fingers crossed for a solution very soon.

John G.

It should be noted that nationally, an earlier pay dispute was agreed by unions.  Warrington remains the only area affected by industrial action.

Andy Carter MP

Conservative MP for South Warrington, Andy Carter has raised the matter in Parliament and is keeping ministers updated.

Andy said so far, there’s no evidence that Labour Councillors are making any effort to solve the problem.

Andy is urging all parties to get round the table to find a solution and is very happy to contribute to the the talks – but ultimately, it’s down to the Council leadership.

Earlier today, Ian caught up with Andy Carter at his Parliamentary office in London.  You can listen again here.

Cllr Kath Buckley

Cllr Kath attended the full council meeting at Parr Hall last night as Cllr Hans Mundry was sworn in as new Leader and Cllr Janet Henshaw as Deputy.

Kath appreciates that the Council is between a rock and a hard place, but wants urgent talks to happen.

Smithy caught up with Kath in our studio earlier – where she shared her thoughts on the full council meeting and gave us the latest update on the strike action.  You can listen again here.

UPDATE: Warrington Bin Strikes Called Off ian

I am one of many pensioners who live on my estate and I think it is terrible that we are having to pay private firms to remove our household rubbish.

We won’t get any reduction in the rates we are asked to pay the council, they are also going to make people want to do more fly tipping and destroy more of our country side with rubbish.

WE NEED OUR BINS EMPTIED NOW

Temporary Waste Sites

In addition to the recycling centres in Woolston, Gateworth and Stockton Heath – the Council have set up two temporary waste sites at Woolston and Victoria Park.

The sites are for household “black bin” waste only (not commercial or garden).  No vans, trailers or large vehicles will be permitted on site.  You can find out more at the Warrington Borough Council Website.

We will keep this page updated.
